چکیده

A time-domain simulation model has been developed for investigating the player-clarinet system. The three components that constitute the simulation model consist of the player's air column, reed, and the clarinet. The player's air column is represented in terms of an analogous circuit model to obtain the mouth pressure. The reed is represented as a damped, driven, nonuniform bar. The clarinet is represented in terms of a scaled version of its input impedance impulse response. A convolution of the impulse response with the volume velocity determines the mouthpiece pressure. Use of the model is valid for both smalland large-amplitude reed oscillations. Many of the nonlinearities associated with the clarinet are incorporated in the model in a rather natural way. Several vocal tract configurations are investigated to determine the influence of the vocal tract on the player's air column impedance and the concomitant effect on the clarinet tone.

Cosmic Strings II

This piece is a limited improvisatory correspondence of the bass clarinet and live electronics with images of “Cosmic String dynamics and Evolution”. The person controlling the live electronics will start sending audio through the Max patch and sending an image from the Jitter patch into the projector simultaneously to begin the piece. The clarinet player is controlling Jitter in realtime. The ...

SABRe: The Augmented Bass Clarinet

An augmented bass clarinet is developed in order to extend the performance and composition potential of the instrument. Four groups of sensors are added: key positions, inertial movement, mouth pressure and trigger switches. The instrument communicates wirelessly with a receiver setup which produces an OSC data stream, usable by any application on a host computer. The SABRe projects intention i...

When the clarinet sounds bad - Identification study

When clarinet sounds bad – Identification study Abstract In wind instruments, tone quality is an important sound feature which strongly depends on the player. The subject of this study was to examine perceptually when a clarinet tone sounds bad, how it sounds, and what this depends on. Analysis of clarinet recordings, interviews, and a listening test gave insights into the most common mistakes ...

The Feathered Clarinet Reed

In this research, a method previously applied to improve a digital simulation of the avian syrinx is adapted to the geometry of the clarinet reed. The clarinet model is studied with particular attention to the case when the reed beats again the lay of the mouthpiece, closing off air flow to the bore once each period. In place of the standard reed table which gives steady-state volume flow as a ...

Research Report: Hybrid Clarinet Project

In the past thirty years we have seen a wide range of studies on the physical modeling of musical instruments using the waveguide technique. We now have at our disposal sophisticated models encompassing a large array of musical instruments. While the waveguide technique is both efficient and allows for the creation of effective models, it remains dependent on the precise control of the paramete...
